There’s nothing like a nice cup of coffee and its smell lingering throughout your house to brighten up your day. And if you’re anything like us, you enjoy a good read to go along with your daily cup of joy. How about learning some new words in Italian and Triestino today?
We’ll begin with Italian health minister’s last name (just kidding!):
- Speranza
Meaning: Hope. Is there a better word to learn these days?
Use:
– Come ti senti oggi? (How are you feeling today?)
– Pieno di speranza! (Full of hope!) - Se Pol!
Meaning: Trieste’s version of “yes, we can” or just “yes”.
Use:
– Posso assaggiare il tuo gelato? (Could I try your ice cream?)
– Se pol! (Yes, you can.) - Gioia
Meaning: It sounds like the English word joy and it means… joy!
Use:
-E’ arrivata la mia pizza! (My pizza’s here!)
-Che gioia! (What joy!) - Serenità
Meaning: peacefulness or serenity.
Use:
-Che serenità! (Serenity now!) - Viva la e po’ bon!
Meaning: The phrase derives from a very popular Triestino song. It means: live it up or take is easy and enjoy it while you can.
Use:
– Non so se ordinare un’altro bicchiere di vino. (I don’t know if should order another glass of wine).
– Ma dai, viva la e po’ bon! (Oh, c’mon! Enjoy it while you can!)
To Be Continued.
