Panem nostrum is an act of kindness turned into an organized activity initiated by Alioscia Cazzador on March 24th, 2020. At the end of March, 20 volunteers got together to deliver bread directly to the homes of families in need in the city of Trieste, helping over 1500 people.
The surplus bread, that otherwise would’ve been thrown away, is courtesy of Panificio Sandrigo Ingross. It arrives from Aquileia to Trieste every morning, where the bread is then distributed by Sant’Egidio Community, R.A.L.F. and Associazione Lagunari Truppe Anfibie.
In a little over a month the project grew as more and more people were in need of help as a result of the pandemic. Eventually, Panem Nostrum got picked up by Protezione Civile and Cooperativa ALMA servizi alla persona, a local Trieste association that helps the elderly and the disabled. All together, volunteers are able to deliver bread every single day to all in need.
