According to the local news channel Rai News there were too many people out and about on this glorious Sunday, April 19th in Trieste.

The sun was shinning and the spring t-shirt weather has beckoned many a Triestino for a Sunday walk. Luckily, the last governmental decree says we are allowed to exercise – fast walk included- within the radius of 500 meters from our homes. Armed with masks and common sense, of course.

Also today Trieste, home to almost 15 thousand Serbs, celebrated Orthodox Easter. Rai News reports that about 20 people got together at the Orthodox Church on via Istria to celebrate the Easter mass. All were eventually stopped by the police and sanctioned.

“This situation really worries me.” The prefect of Trieste Valerio Valenti told Rai News. “Yesterday 189 people were sanctioned and today about half of that. It’s like people don’t get it.”

Meanwhile, Friuli Venezia Giulia’s governor Fedriga invites everyone to continue staying home and remain vigilant.
