Italians put on an average of two kilos of weight during the coronavirus lockdown, between 10 March and 4 May, according to estimates by Italian farmers’ group Coldiretti.
The amount of food purchased by Italians during the quarantine increased by 18 per cent compared to the same time last year, according to Coldiretti, with an emphasis on comfort food such as pizza, frittiand gelato, as well as alcohol.
However a poll conducted by Ixè reveals that 47 per cent of Italians say that losing weight is one of their main goals, with many taking to diets and outdoor exercise to get back into shape during phase two, reports Italian news agency ANSA.
