Italy released a contested mobile app to trace coronavirus infections on the first day of June. However, Friuli Venezia Giulia’s governor Massimiliano Fedriga decided the app will not be experimented in our region.

Immuni app that has been launched on Monday in four regions of Italy is based on software launched last month by Apple and Google. The app is aimed at reducing the risk of contagion by recording when users are in close proximity with each other. Their mobile phones will exchange codes through Bluetooth technology.

There has been a widespread resistance from people concerned about invasion of privacy in FVG region and as of Monday, Fedriga said the app will not be tested in our region and FVG will withdraw its consent.

“As we we see it, Immuni will not provide the reconstruction of the so-called contagion chain but will send an sms to the citizens who entered in contact with the virus-positive individual.” Fedriga told TELEQUATRO late Monday night. “This means that the citizens themselves will need to deal with this situation as opposed to health services as was expected. It means the citizens will either call their general practitioner, which will inevitably generate panic, or not do anything at all, in which case the app becomes pointless.”
