An eventful Saturday for Trieste as thousands took to Piazza Unità to protest against the unjust dismissal of Trieste’s port authority president Zeno D’Agostino.
The designation of Trieste Port Authority president, dating back to 2016, was annulled as the Anti-Corruption Authority declared that he could not be appointed being already chairman of TTP passenger terminal.

The news of the declaration of incompatibility, and therefore of the revocation of Zeno D’Agostino from his position as President of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone came as a shock to the city of Trieste.
D’Agostino, who has held this position since 2016, was not eligible to do it as he was already the president of the Trieste Terminal Passeggeri since 2015, for which the same Harbour Authority is a shareholder.
In a recent interview, the Prefect of Trieste Valerio Valenti underlined that D’Agostino would no longer be the president of TTP, Terminal Passeggeri, but will remain the president of the Harbour Authority.
D’Agostino, who has done a lot for the Port of Trieste in recent years and who was directly involved in the long-awaited closure of the ferriera by the population of Trieste, has become Trieste’s hero. Thousands of people came down to Piazza Unità this afternoon to protest against the unjust decision by the anti-corruption authority, chanting “Zeno! Zeno!”.
