In marking independence, Trieste’s Colombian community celebrates its heritage at the renown Caravella beach in Sistiana.
On Sunday after noon, July 19, Colombian Association of Trieste, served Colombian hot dogs, hamburgers and empanadas in Sistiana’s Caravella beach, while listening to music native to the land of their birth.
The festival celebrated Colombia’s independence from Spain in the early 1800s.

Immigration was a frequent topic of conversation at the festival this Sunday.

This Colombian lady, dressed in a traditional costume, told us:
“This country is not perfect, but it’s the closest to perfect that we can find,” she said. “We live here very good.”

If the festival was anything else, it was a look into Colombia’s soul. A mix of folk music, traditional costumes and dances made the festival all the more special to all present.
