Alitalia will not resume flights from Trieste to Rome and Milan until late September.

Despite the willingness of Friuli Venezia Giulia region and the Ronchi Legionari Triste airport to find an economic solution, Alitalia’s flights to and from Milan and Rome remain suspended until September. This created a backlash in the region as without Alitalia’s flights Trieste Airport risks closure.

In response, Alitalia said it was being charged to resume services from Trieste Airport at more than double the rate applied to its competitors, which hampered its recovery as the sector emerges from the coronavirus crisis.

Alitalia added that being able to resume its flight connections depended on how quickly demand recovers from the impact of the coronavirus and on “obtaining from the airport economic conditions for the restart of flights in line with those offered to other airlines”.
