On Sunday Italian government decided on the three week closure of all discos around the country due to the rise of the coronavirus numbers.

In a decree signed by Health Minister Roberto Speranza, the government stated that the wearing of masks would be mandatory in public areas where groups could form from 6 pm to 6 am.

“We need to send our country the message that it is not the time to let your guard down,” said Speranza.

Massimiliano Fedriga expressed his disappointment in the government’s decision stating that the people working in the nightlife sector will suffer major losses.

The new measure, to take effect on Monday, August 17 and last through September 7, comes after a long and complicated dispute between the government and regions over the nightlife sector, which employs nearly 50,000 people in 3,000 clubs across the country, reports Italian news agency ANSA.
