Italian government called a summit on schools’ reopening after teaching staff tested positive for the virus, reports Italian news agency ANSA.

The aim of the summit was to decide on the clear guidelines for the September 14 reopening. One of the major concerns is the protocol on managing possible Covid cases as well as school transport.

The summit was held on Wednesday, 26 August, after a number of teaching staff tested positive for the virus.

Italy’s ministers for education, health, transport, and regional affairs participated in the videoconference summit, reports Italian news agency ANSA, with the objective of agreeing on a nationwide approach to covid-19 protocols.

Friuli Venezia Giulia’s governor Massimiliano Fedriga called on the government to give clear guidelines for the upcoming school year.

Earlier this summer Italian premier Giuseppe Conte promised that Italy’s schools would reopen “in complete safety” on 14 September.

So far the government has decided that students will be distanced and will have to use face-masks, at least in corridors.

“The schools must not only be reopened, we must also ensure that they do not close,” education minister Lucia Azzolina said recently.
