By In Trieste
We visited Comune di Trieste on a rainy fall morning for a brief chat with the mayor of our city, Roberto Dipiazza.
In Trieste: Thank you for agreeing to see us. We saw Piazza Unità bustling with preparation for Trieste Next.
Mayor Dipiazza: We are getting ready for Trieste Next starting today, then Link (which is a journalism festival) and later we’ll host Barcolana under the same tents. This year Barcolana is going to be a bit different, since gatherings along the Rive are prohibited.
In Trieste: Trieste is full of events this season.
Mayor Dipiazza: Our city is truly unique and is definitely worth discovering. We have had many visitors in the past few years from each and every country of the world. Unfortunately, this year is a little different due to obvious reasons.
In Trieste: Are you a Triestino?
Mayor Dipiazza: I was born in Friuli, near Palmanova. But I have lived in Trieste my whole life. Before becoming the mayor of Trieste (this is my third term), I owned several supermarkets around town.
In Trieste: What does the future hold for Trieste?
Mayor Dipiazza: Trieste is a magnificent city with a complex history. However, I see only the best in the future of our city.
