The new Italian decree mandates the wearing of protective face masks outdoors at all times of the day with heavy penalties for all who fail to abide by the rules.
With the new decree in force from today, 8 October, Italy made face masks outdoors compulsory across country and limited the so-called movida gatherings, as proposed by the health minister Roberto Speranza.
The new ordinance extends the safety measures that were previously in place.
Moreover, the decree now mandates the wearing of protective face masks outdoors at all times. Kids under 6 years old, people with disabilities that prevent them from wearing masks and people exercising outside do not need to wear face coverings.
The government extended Italy’s existing state of emergency – which was supposed to come to an end on 15 October – until 31 January 2021, exactly a year after it was first introduced. This comes as no surprise since the cases have been on the rise since the end of summer and there has been a “significant jump” in Italy’s numbers.
