The world renown regatta event has been canceled this morning at 7 am.
The forecast for this Sunday is for high winds and heavy rain in the morning , with conditions deteriorating in afternoon and evening.
The statement on the Barcolana website reads:
“Due to the marine weather conditions present in the Gulf of Trieste, the Race Committee, on the basis of the indications of the Harbor Master’s Office and after consulting the organizing company, evaluated the weather alert issued by the Civil Protection and the weather forecasts issued by the Osmer today, Sunday 11 October, he decided to cancel the Autumn Cup – Barcolana 52 presented by Generali.”
Mitja Gialuz, the patron of Barcolana, underlined that it is important to keep the crews and boats safe and that taking this decision was “important, difficult but necessary”.
