The much-anticipated rules for Italy’s Christmas season, in force from 24 December until 6 January, were confirmed by premier Giuseppe Conte during a televised address on the evening of 19 December.

The Italian Council of Ministers enacted special nationwide measures to limit regional travel during the upcoming holiday season, specifically from Dec. 24, 2020 to Jan. 6, 2021

Italy will remain in the red zone during the following days: 24-27 December, 31 December3 January and 5-6 January.

Italy will remain in the orange zone during 28-30 December and 4 January.

Red zone means bars, restaurants and non-essential shops will be closed. You should leave your home only for urgent or necessary reasons such as work or health.

Supermarkets, barbers, hairdressers, newsstands and tobacconists will remain open, and people will be able to attend religious services in church and go jogging or cycling in the proximity of their homes.

People leaving their homes will be required to carry self-declaration form, and identification, stating their reasons for being out.

Orange zones means shops open but bars and restaurants closed. People can move freely within their towns and cities, but not leave them to travel to other towns in the same region. It is not allowed to enter or leave the region.

In both orange and red zones maximum two non-cohabitating people (not counting children under 14) are allowed to visit private homes once a day.

The existing nationwide curfew from 10 pm until 5 am will remain in place each night.
