6.3 Magnitude Earthquake Near Zagreb Felt Strongly in Trieste

The province of Zagabria, Croatia was struck by a 6.30 magnitude earthquake just before 1 pm on Tuesday 29 December.

The shock, which was felt clearly in Trieste as well as the rest of Friuli Venezia Giulia, was recorded at 10 km from Petrinja, south of Zagabria, where it caused significant structural damage, according to Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).

In Trieste there were reports of “shaking lamps” and “moving furniture”. Many took to the streets and Piazza Unità was full of concerned citizens, reports local media.
