Many took to the streets this past weekend, 9-10 January, to protest against school closures in Friuli Venezia Giulia.

“Why should a student be able to go to a bar but not allowed to go back to school?” Questioned one of the participants in Piazza Unità on Sunday night.

Students and teachers of Trieste high schools protested to demand a safe return to the classroom and an end to distance learning.

Friuli Venezia Giulia’s high schools have been closed until the end of this month as per last regional decree.
The school protests are taking place all over Italy, as the majority of the country is now under the yellow zone.
However, PM Conte is set to introduce a new emergency decree on 15 January, most likely modifying or extending the existing restrictions.
