If you live in Trieste and you hear the name Sisi, you inevitably think of Castle Miramare. Despite Sisi being an Austrian empress, somehow most Triestini think of her as ours, Trieste’s princess. Hence many of you will be ecstatic to know that Netflix is preparing a show about our Sisi.
Since royal dynasties are always a success, the streaming platform is moving on to the most popular Empress in the world. Named The Empress – in the original German, Die Kaiserin -, the show will have six episodes of 45 minutes. A short series that will follow the first few months of Sisi in Vienna.
Among other subjects, the show will touch on the crises at the beginning of Sisi’s reign, such as the crisis in Crimea, the Austrian occupation of Northern Italy and the war with Prussia.
“Sisi is a timeless story, a young liberal woman fighting for independence in a rather hostile environment,” underlined managing director Moritz von Kruedener.
