In his address on social media mayor Dipiazza spoke to the indignant Triestine public regarding Mercato Coperto.

“It was interesting to see so many petitions,” said Dipiazza via his Facebook page “and of course Mercato Coperto will not be turned into another supermarket.”

Trieste’s mayor reassured the public that this was never Comune’s intention and it was probably a misunderstanding or a speculation of some sort.

“What we want is to revive this place. We want Mercato Coperto to become a place of attraction. Right now few people come here. But if we create a mini Eataly, an artisanal market, something peculiar, people will start coming. And of course, the first floor will remain for the small businesses already present here.”

Dipiazza finished his speech but inviting the Triestine public to come up with viable ideas instead of just signing petitions.
