The trail, which is named after the poet Rainer Maria Rilke, who lived as a guest of the princes Thurn and Taxis at Duino Castle, is now open again.

“Residents of our region can now come to Rilke Trail for a walk,” commented the mayor of Duino Mr Pallotta. “Rilke is open for people but this doesn’t mean that we should let our guard down. Remember to keep at least 1 meter distance from other walkers, use masks that are to cover the nasal area, gloves and hand sanitizer when needed. It is in our hands to keep the pandemic at bay.”

The parking space which belongs to the United World College of the Adriatic will be opened at 8.30 am and will be free for the visitors of Rilke Trail.

“I would like to thank the rector of the United World College of the Adriatic, William Turner, for welcoming our initiative”, said the mayor of Duino in his recent interview.

  1. …and at the end there’s a wonderful (permanent) exhibition in Duino Castle (very beautiful – a must visit and you can roam freely inside much of the castle) of baroque stringed instruments (violins, viols, cellos, viola da gamba etc) and also the history of the area, the family, the castle, and reconstructions…. when it’s open again. Lovely day out. And lunch across the street at Albergo “Al Pescatore” (sit in the shaded outside courtyard!). Soon …soon … happy times…happy times! Tr Tr Expat

  2. …and in the castle rooms with Adriatic view where Rainer Maria Rilke (the ultimate introvert) stayed and wrote. “I want to be with those who know secret things or else alone.”
    Mmmm – must book a room….
