A hunger to visit museums and see art in person will be satisfied this summer in Trieste. Here is our selection of five exhibitions in museums, foundations and galleries not to be missed.

Leonor Fini: Triestine Memories

Exhibition: Leonor Fini Memorie Triestine

Date: June 26 – August 22 2021

Where: Magazzino 26 in Porto Vecchio

Opening Hours: Wednesday and Thursday 10-13 and 17 -20; Friday and Sunday 10 -13 and 17- 21; Saturday 10 -13 and 15- 21; Monday and Tuesday closed

Cost: € 5.00

A multimedia exhibition of painting, light, music and olfactory perception, which investigates for the first time the personality and art of the great painter through her fundamental youth training in Trieste.

International Women Artists’ Biennale 

Exhibition: Biennale Internazionale della Donna

Date: 15 May- 18 July

Where: Magazzino 26 in Porto Vecchio

Opening Hours: Wednesday-Thursday 5 – 8 pm; Friday, Sunday 10-1 pm, 5-9 pm; Saturday 10-1 pm, 3-9 pm.

Cost: 5 euros

With numerous pavilions and a curated presentation of international artists, this edition of the Trieste’s Biennale, entitled Transformazioni Selenziose (silent transformations), is a cultural cacophony like no other. The best part? This year boasts a raft of female artists. 

In the Cities by Gabriele Basilico

Exhibition: Gabriele Basilico. Nelle città

Date: 11 June – 5 September, 2021

Where: Magazzino delle Idee

Opening Hours: Tuesday- Sunday, 10 am- 7 pm

Cost: 6 euros

The component of travel was a constant for Gabriele Basilico (1944-2013) who is considered one of the masters of contemporary photography. Starting in 1984, with the trip to Normandy for the Mission photographique de la DATAR (the biggest public commission in the history of photography), he began a long series of trips. This experience forever changed his way of seeing and thus the exhibition Nelle Città was born. It’s definitely a must-see.

Telecali Macoypso

Exhibition: Telecali Macoypso

Date:  14 Jue – 11 July

Where: Sala Veruda, Passo Costanzi, 2

Opening Hours: Daily, 10 am – 1 pm; 5 pm – 8 pm

Cost: Free

Marcello Mascherini. The Theater

Exhibition: Marcello Mascherini. Il teatro

Date: 4 June- 20 July

Where: Sala “Attilio Selva” di Palazzo Gopcevich, via Rossini 4, Trieste

Opening Hours: Tuesday- Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm

Cost: Free entrance

A wonderful exhibit dedicated to the one of the most significant Italian sculptors of the twentieth century, Marcello Mascherini. The exhibit explores the sculptor’s varied activity in the field of theater.
