A grand comeback for Trieste’s opera house, Teatro Verdi, which reopened to public after months of closure in June with La Traviata, followed by a spectacular adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake on Tuesday, 13 July.
Trieste’s Verdi impressive adaption of Swan Lake this Tuesday provoked a standing ovation, with audience applauding for a few good minutes at the end of the last act. The final bow was accompanied by a stirring “Bravi!”, “Bravo!”, “Brava!” shouter.
Masked members of the orchestra, conducted by music director Yuriy Bervetsky, performed Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece with 500 masked people (Verdi’s full capacity these days due to Covid regulations) watching the ballet from the surrounding rows.
Minutes into the staging of Swan Lake, performers’ surgical masks come off, timed with the rising notes of Tchaikosvky’s music that lead everyone to sustained applause.
