Triestini, as well as the rest of Italians, are accustomed to seeing supermarket shelves stacked high with Barilla pasta but now the trademark navy box has become a crossbody bag thanks to the efforts of a New York-based designer.
Nik Bentel has crafted 100 units of the limited-edition leather handbag and promises he won’t make any more once the run sells out, leading some in the fashion industry to predict it could become this season’s “must-have” accessory.
The pasta box bag has a stitched leather handle and a blingy gold chain together with the list of ingredients, nutrition information and instructions on how to cook penne, all printed using UV technology.
The limited-edition Barilla Pasta Bag went on the market, via Bentel’s website nikolasbentelstudio.com, on Wednesday 11 August, with a price tag of $199.
