The Goletta Verde campaign has been monitoring pollution levels along the Italian coastline for more than 30 years.
The Goletta Verde study this year found that the water along the Italian coast was most polluted by bacteria where rivers or canals met the sea.
The sea around Trieste is “overall not polluted” according to an annual report by Italian environmental association Legambiente which described the situation in the FVG capital as “as good as last summer.”
