If you live in Trieste, you have surely stopped by the beautiful former wine warehouse right by the sea that was revived by Eataly Trieste. Eataly (a play on words eat + Italy) is a vibrant marketplace featuring an array of cafes overlooking the harbor, counters, restaurants, and a cooking school. A three-story building full of delicious food, friendly staff and many experiences to choose from.

We interviewed Marco Gioacchini, the store manager, foodie, and wine lover, to guide us through Eataly Trieste.
Tell us a little about yourself..
Marco: My story started in a small coastal town in the region of Marche, in my mom’s kitchen. I used to watch my mom make the delicious dishes she learned from her mom. It was a simple cuisine made out of simple ingredients soaked in the folk culture that was handed down from one generation to the other.

How did you end up in Trieste?
M: After years of working in industrial large-scale food production, I became part of the Eataly team. I started this adventure in Genoa, Liguria, where I had the opportunity to learn about the intricate and not very well-known Ligurian cuisine. This February, 2021, I moved to Trieste to become the store manager of this beautiful market place right by the sea.

What’s special about Eataly Trieste?
M: The essence of Eataly Trieste is made up of three winning components: eat, shop, and learn! Eataly Trieste is all about buying the best Italian high-quality food and wine. Our market offers the finest artisan products at reasonable prices. Before Eataly, these products rarely reached Trieste due to its somewhat remote location, logistically speaking.

What’s new at Eataly Trieste this summer?
M: As for most businesses, this past year we had to reevaluate many things and we definitely missed our customers. We knew we wanted to make it safer and easier for everyone to have fun, so we inaugurated our grand outdoor patio – a perfect place for a relaxed meal or a drink right by the sea.

What should we look forward to in the fall?
M: We have many surprises in store for our clients this coming fall. From the stalls right in front of our store with artisans introducing their food, to new cooking courses, to wine tastings – there’ll be lots to choose from! A big step for us will be to reopen our Osteria del Vento, on the top floor, which has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic. Don’t forget to follow our social channels to stay updated with all our upcoming events.
