Mayoral candidate for PD (Partito Democratico) Francesco Russo made a public appearance with the outgoing mayor Roberto Dipiazza and emphasized areas of common ground.
It was a warm September afteroon when the outgoing mayor Dipiazza (running for his fourth term in the office) met the potential next mayor Russo in a sparring over how to best handle the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, shortcomings in city schools, and the city’s lack of parking spaces.
“We talked at length about my future projects and his job done in the past years. Sometimes I get impatient as the current mayor attacts and I, well, attack back” commented Russo.
The debate featured sharpened distinctions and criticism among the two candidates, with Russo weathering some of Dipiazza’s attacks who lagged behind.
“Let’s confront and talk about the city, about everything there is to talk about” concluded mayor Dipiazza.
Both Dipiazza and Russo are running in the mayoral elections to be held in Trieste 3-4 October.
