Regatta Barcolana was officially presented this week in Barcolana’s headquarters, Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano. The main themes of this year’s regatta are sustainability, climate change and women in sailing.
“Last year we had to cancel the regatta due to strong bora winds, but this year’s forecast promises sunshine all the way and it will be a regatta full of optimism and enthusiasm. It will be a grand comeback” said Mitja Gialuz.

The Chairman of Generali, Gabriele Galateri di Genola, who attended the Barcolana presentation stated that “returning all together to the sea, practicing this magnificent sport and exchanging views on subjects of environment, diversity, inclusion and sustainability, makes this experience all the more meaningful.”
One of this year’s novelty is “Trofeo Generali – Women in Sailing”, a trophy which celebrates women’s contribution in sailing. It will be awarded to the first helmswoman of a mixed crew that will cross the Barcolana’s finishing line.

“Barcolana respects traditions but strives for innovation. On October 10 amateur and professional boats will sail together towards the finish line – this encompasses the spirit of our regatta which is open to everyone. I believe the future of this city is connected with the sea and its port” concluded Mitja.
The last date to sign up for the regatta is Thursday, September 30th.
