High bora winds created challenging conditions for the crews onboard 1650 boats during the 53rd Barcolana regatta this Sunday morning in Trieste.

Strong gusts of wind created choppy sea conditions at high tide for the biggest regatta of the season. As the Barcolana proceeded, the boats continued to withdraw from the race and eventually only class 1 and Maxi boats were allowed to be qualified as finishers.

“It was a little blustery out there – they were challenging conditions but we had a great race and everyone came back safely” the organizers told us.

Interview with Filippo Safret from Arca SGR

The winner of Sunday’s race was Arca SGR, which came in under an hour, followed by Slovenian Way of Life and Maxi Jena.

Race director Mitja Gialuz speaking about the event said, It was heavy, but great. Despite the difficult weather conditions, we have been able to satisfy the competitors and visitors.”
