A document on the transfer of ownership of Narodni Dom to the Slovene minority was signed last week by the Italian government.

A grand event for Trieste’s multicultural community as Narodni Dom, the former center for Slovene minority in Trieste, which included a theater, a hotel, and numerous cultural associations, is officially restituted to the Slovenian community after being burned down and occupied by the fascists in 1920.

The Narodni Dom currently hosts a branch of the University of Trieste and a library with over 43,000 books.

Following the handover, the building will be owned by an organisation constituted by two Slovenian minority associations, the Slovenian Economic and Cultural Union (SKGZ) and the Confederation of the Slovenian Organisations (SSO).
