On 15 October at 6 pm, Studio Tommaseo will open the solo exhibition Theater of Life by the artist, poet and art therapist Consuelo Rodriguez, curated by Darius Bork.
Until 28 October, the exhibition will feature a series of nine works on canvas belonging to the Theater of Life cycle.

Created by the Triestine artist in 2019-2020, these works seem deliberately “defective”: they represent enigmatic characters, all without heads. As when we make a mistake in a photograph and do not frame the whole person we want to portray, the artist ironically plays with the over- lapping of contents such as abandoning the mind / losing the head / not having the head right…, while mysterious objects in the painting, darker and pictorially marked, suggest a way out.

At 6.30 pm there will be the presentation of the work Alchemic Soul, which will be the unprecedented work in this Triestine exhibition: a large monochrome high relief on humankind’s relationship with the universe, with a non-figurative pattern and characterised by peaks and troughs that vary in height and run across the entire surface of the work, “rippling” it.

Consuelo Rodriguez asked a group of engineers coordinated by Giuseppe Cautero of the Instrumentation & Detectors Lab at Elettra-Sincrotrone, the Trieste-based international research centre specialising in the generation of synchrotron light and high-quality free-electron lasers, to measure and process the numerical relationships of the light and shadow that these ripples produce.

Based on the work of Issey Sandei in particular, software has been developed. Paolo Pittana, from Elettra’s ID Lab, will speak about this at the opening and Pietro Polotti, composer and lecturer at the Conservatorio Tartini in Trieste, will give a “sound demonstration” of Rodriguez’s work generated by this computer programme which will in fact “read the sound of the soul” from the ripples and ondulations so measured on the surface of Alchemic Soul.

At 7 pm there will be an in-depth conversation on Rodriguez’s work between the artist and the curator Darius Bork.

Also available for individual viewing at the exhibition is the video made for the occasion by Paola Pisani in which philosopher Giovanni Leghissa discusses the soul in philosophy and art. This video contribution will be shown to the public on the day of the finissage, 28 October at 6 pm, and will be the focus of a discussion with the artist and a concluding guided tour.

Furthermore, during the exhibition, the artist will be present at Studio Tommaseo on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 pm onwards.

Consuelo Rodriguez studied at the Scuola Libera di Figura with Professor Nino Perizi in Trieste, continuing her studies at the School of Visual Art in New York and at the Art Academy in Salzburg. She used material techniques at the Bad Reichenhall Academy of Art and in 2000 attended the marble sculpture course at the Scuola Arco Arte in Carrara. In 2012 she was awarded a study grant at the Zhou Brothers Art Center Foundation in Chicago and in 2013 at the Bad Reichenhall Academy.

She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including New York, Chicago, Miami, Shanghai, Berlin, Paris, Salzburg and Istanbul. Her works are in public and private collections in Italy, Croatia, Austria, Spain, France and Germany.
