A peaceful protest and vigil organized by the multicultural communities of Trieste was held in Largo Barriera last night with hundreds taking to the streets to protest against the horror of war in Ukraine.

Rally and prayer vigil for peace in Ukraine was held in Largo Barriera last night, with Ukrainians joined by Russians, Italians and other world citizens in demanding an end to Russia’s war on Ukraine.

“This horror must stop,” said one of the protesters.

“I am a Russian and I have no enemies in Ukraine. Stop the war” read one of the signs.

There are 250,000 Ukrainians registered as resident in Italy, reports newspaper La Stampa, however it is estimated that more than 400,000 Ukrainians are living in Italy, including those who have obtained Italian citizenship or who do not have residency papers.

Another protest will be held today, Saturday, 26 February, at 10.30 am in Largo Barriera.
