Grado, a beautiful coastal town east of Trieste, has come among the first in a list of the best Italian “off the beaten track” places to visit this summer according to The Guardian magazine.
The article describes Grado as “a fishing port with a small but atmospheric old town packed with bars and restaurants, old fishermen’s houses and more churches,” reminding the reader that “though it doesn’t have as many canals as La Serenissima, its little streets are still named calli.”
Barnaba Island and Aquileia with its “impressive basilica in the “modern” (post-11th-century) town” are mentioned in The Guardian’s article as well.
The Guardian has recently posted another article connected to our region, inserting Trieste in the most walkable cities in Europe. The article suggests to walk “up to Villa Opicina for a view over the Gulf of Trieste. If you have energy for more walking, continue along the wooded gravel path of the Strada Napoleonica towards Prosecco. It’s 5km if you go the whole way; you’ll see the Castello di Miramare, the summerhouse of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian and his wife, Charlotte, at the foot of the cliff. You can come back along a different footpath.”
With Grado and FVG being back in the spotlight, our region can expect influx of tourist come spring time (or winter, if they like bora that is).
