Weekly multicultural aperitivi to restart this Thursday at Bar Tergesteo from 7 pm on.

Expats in Trieste, a multicultural community in Trieste that holds more than 2000 members from around the globe meets every Thursday night at Bar Tergesto for some food, drinks, to make friends and welcome newcomers from around the globe.

Expats in Trieste was founded in December 2016 by Maria Kochetkova and Francesco Stumpo, both new to Trieste at the time. At the beginning it was an informal thing which grew into a thriving multicultural community.

How do aperitivi work?

Francesco: There’s no fixed price, just come and order your drink and chat the night away. We have had many couples meet at our aperitivi, too.

Maria: Either Francesco or I are always present at aperitivi, we welcome newcomers and introduce them to the crowd. We have around 20 people every week and every week we meet someone new. It’s wonderful!

Why Bar Tergesto?

Maria: It’s very central, right off Piazza Unità, and in summer it has magnificent outdoor space.

Francesco: And the drinks are great!

Anything a newcomer should know?

Maria: We created the aperitivi initially for expats – foreigners living in and around Trieste- to meet the local foreign community. But we also have many Italians who love joining us. We welcome everyone and discriminate no-one, we celebrate diversity!

Francesco: If you are shy, you’ll see we are a very friendly crowd. Our aperitivi motto is come strangers- leave friends!
