Every Saturday we’re spotlighting remarkable local females who could change the way we look at the world. This Saturday is Noemi Batki’s turn, an Olympic champion in diving tells us the story of becoming a star athlete.
Noemi Batki is a Hungarian-born Italian diver. She is a member of the Italian National Diving Team and is sponsored by Centro Sportivo Esercito/Triestina Nuoto.

How did you become passionate about the world of diving?
My mom was a diver who took part in the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. At the beginning I would follow her around and watch her train. When I turned 5, I joined the diving team she was coaching and the rest is history. I instantly became passionate about this sport, despite the fear of unknown which I’ve been dealing with for years.
What are diving competitions like?
The competitions are divided between the trampoline (1-4 meters long) and the platform (10 meters long). There are various heights, and as a kid you can compete in 5 – 7,m meter tournaments.

What was it like to represent Trieste at the Olympic Games in Tokyo?
It was magnificent. I was born in Belluno, and have Hungarian roots so I feel like I brought a bit of the world to Tokyo.

What are your goals for 2022-2023?
As of now, my main goal is to find peace of mind, which I lost in the past four years trying to get ready for my fourth Olympic games. I have no regrets, it’s been a long journey and it’s normal to go through highs and lows. I worked hard to get to where I am today, also thanks to Centro Sportivo dell’Esercito which I am proud to be a part of. Now that I am back in Trieste after 4 years in Rome I hope to be able to continue to train without pressure, and enjoy my freedom.
