After days of anomalous heat and bora wind, a large-scale fire affected the Carso area, forcing the temporary closure of sections of the motorway and evacuations.
A second difficult day in Trieste due to a vast fire, which affected the karst plateau on Tuesday morning and led to the closure of the A4 motorway on the route from Redipuglia to Lisert, with the staff on duty at the motorway barrier forced to evacuate under the intervention of the fire brigade, committed to extinguishing the flames also with helicopters and canadair.
Towards Trieste, the section between Redipuglia and the Lisert barrier remains closed with the recommended exit Villesse, for a stretch of about 15 kilometers. Heavy traffic directed to the Port of Trieste is diverted to Slovenia, as the Statale 14 and the Vallone road are also not accessible. Sistiana’s highway exist is also closed.
«Great concern for what is happening on the Trieste Karst. A large fire on the outskirts of the city is also threatening the A4 motorway and the railway network with the consequent closure of connections. Thanks to the firefighters and civil protection of the FVG who are trying to limit the fire that broke out in these hours. It is important to act promptly to limit the damage and work will have to be done to give all the necessary support and tools to the severely affected territories ”. The president of Italia viva Ettore Rosato writes on social media.
