Carso area is back in flames after days of anomalous heat and bora wind forcing the evacuation of San Michele, Marcottini, Devetachi and Visentini areas.

Thursday, 28 July the flames took over the area of Monte Brestovec, getting dangerously close to villages, forcing the authorities to evacuate Devetachi, Marcottini and Visintini in the province of Doberdò del lago, and San Michele in the province of Savogna d’Isonzo.

High alert for other villages – Palchisce (in Doberdò) and Gabria (in Savogna). There are about 400 displaced people who were forced to leave their houses and flee from the fire, reports Il Piccolo.

“We are on high alert again,” said vice president of FVG, Riccardo Riccardi. “Unfortunately the situation is not getting better, the flames are taking over vast areas of Carso and we had to evacuate people again. It is especially worrying at night after the Canadair planes finish their daily turns.”

Canadair planes are designed specifically to water bomb blazes and can be found in fleets across the world. They have a capacity of 6,000 liters of water.

As of now, all roads to Trieste remain open and trains are running on schedule.
