Among the various races on offer this week, there’s something a little different about Barcolana Classic, organized by the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano sailing club of Trieste.

Lovingly tended and restored vintage boats will take to the Gulf of Trieste next to modern spirit-of-tradition boats for a parade followed by a race that, depending on this fall’s ever-changing weather, will either be along the shore or in a triangle in the middle of the Gulf. The parade starts on Saturday 8th at 10.30 AM, with the race following on 11.30 AM. The event will include a broad range of boats, anything from classic sailing yachts to the traditional rowing boats of Losinj, in a great opportunity for young and old to take a glimpse at maritime history in action. Just watch out for pirates!
