An impeccable choice made by the artistic director of the Rossetti theater to start this season with a bang. More precisely, with Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice” staged without missing a beat.
In a world where money turns the wheels, men call the shots, and your religion or race can open or close doors, some win and some lose.
“It’s a grand comeback for the theaters across the world and I am happy to be here tonight,” Valerio told us.
“We have the biggest offer among Italian theaters. It makes us very proud as we work very hard,” added Il Rossetti’s president, Francesco Granbassi.
Shakespeare’s versus translated into Italian and impeccably performed by the theater’s troupe made for a grand Tuesday night, which ended in 5 minute applause.
Director Paolo Valerio and the company reclaim Shakespeare’s disturbing tale. Looking at the story in a contemporary context, the production asks us to confront and question our own prejudices in the here and now.
“The Merchant of Venice” will be on the Rossetti’s stage until Sunday, 17 October.
