Friuli Venezia Giulia region is among the most visited in Italy this summer 2022 according to FVG’s president, Massimiliano Fedriga, who together with regional councilor for tourism, Sergio Bini, presented their findings during a press conference in the regione on Monday, 17 October.
Spring and summer 2022 seem to have brought about a much-awaited change in the past years’ trend, with the end of nearly all Covid-related measures and the return of international and Italian visitors to Friuli Venezia Giulia region putting a smile back on the faces of many business owners and tourism workers.
“Italy’s tourism sector is on its way to post-pandemic recovery,” said Sergio Bini, regional councilor for tourism. “We’ve taken a look at the data we collected from the visitors of our region during the spring 2022 and it has been incredibly positive. Many Italian tourists said they’d come back to visit and almost everyone remained impressed with our beautiful towns.”
The Covid-19 pandemic has literally battered the Italian tourism sector. In 2019, before the virus hit, some 96 million international tourists visited the country and tourism alone accounted for 13 percent of national GDP. All that, of course, came to an abrupt halt in early 2020, when the country lost a staggering 120.6 billion euros because of travel restrictions and an estimated 337,000 people were put out of work.
“2022 is going to be the year of our region’s resurgence,” said Sergio Bini, FVG’s councilor for tourism.
The data gathered by market research institute Demoskopika prove him right.
According to Demoskopika, the five most visited regions by total number of arrivals will be Veneto (15.2 million arrivals), Friuli Venezia Giulia (11.3 m), Lombardy (10.1 m), Emilia-Romagna (9.8 m) and Tuscany (9.3 m).
“We’ve invested a lot of resources into the promotion of our region’s territory,” added FVG’s president, Massimiliano Fedriga “with placing local initiatives at the front burner. However, we must work on our hospitality level to become a better touristic destination for Italian as well as foreign visitors.”
Over 92 million people – both residents and international arrivals – are expected to travel to an Italian destination over the course of 2022, marking a 43 percent increase on last year.
