From exhibitions, book presentations, and meetings in schools – many initiatives have been organized in Trieste to commemorate the Remembrance Day, known in Italian as ‘Giorno del Ricordo’.
“Lest we forget,” said councilor Giorgio Rossi when opening the Monday’s press conference at the Comune. “We must remember history for it to not be repeated.”
“I would like to thank Comune di Trieste for always paying attention to what matters most. It’s fundamental that the memory of what happened remains available to all,” said one of the representatives of the Istrian decent in Trieste. “The ceremony in Foiba di Basovizza is a symbol of the past. Slovenes, Croatians and Italians have all suffered the post war horror and it’s important to remember this.”
