Every day is gelato day in Trieste. It is especially true in spring and summer when the choice of open gelaterias and exquisite flavors is endless.

Gelato is healthier than ice cream in terms of nutritional content and quality ingredients. Gelato is best when made with seasonal fruit and/or local dairy products.

In Friuli Venezia Giulia we are famous for peaches, kiwis and berries and those are the flavors you want to look for in your scoop. When in town, you should always try as many flavors and gelaterias as possible to compare.

In Trieste you must try:

Gelateria Oggi for their all time favorite Pulcinella flavor with its orange peel and the creamiest of textures.

Gelateria Gangemi (off Piazza Unità) for the to die for pistacchio flavor with, yes, real pistachios.

Gelateria Da Nicola (across from the Revoltella Museum) for their amazing Tiramisu ice-cream.

Gelateria Marco for their creamy nocciola ice-cream.

Natura Gelato for their best in town Stracciatella flavor.

Gelateria Zampoli for their classic Salted Caramel flavor.

Gelateria Jazzin for their Caramelized Figs and Walnuts flavor.

Gelateria Udevala for their tasty patriotic Free Trieste flavor.

Gelateria Arnoldo for their exquisite Ricotta and Basilico flavor.

Naturally, 2 scoops are a must.

  • * Gelaterias and Jazzin have been chosen by Gambero Rosso as the best ones in town.
