The University of Trieste is at the center of the world attention once again with this morning’s grand new presentation: the “most realistic humanoid” revealed at the Cattinara hospital.
The University of Trieste defines it as the “most realistic humanoid robot in the world”, as it is equipped with artificial intelligence, robotic limbs and real physiological reactions.

The robot, which is the first experience of the sort in Europe, is called Hal s5301 and has been installed in the Medical Simulation and Advanced Training Center of the Cattinara hospital. Produced by the Accurate-Gaumard Scientific company, it will be used to enhance and refine the training of doctors.

“We are the first in Europe to have Hal s5301”, said the rector Roberto Di Lenarda. Hal s5301 is managed by a control room: it speaks, sweats, moves its eyes and arm and is structured in such a way as to allow the practice of the main medical techniques applied in first aid, intensive care and surgery. The robot reproduces cardiac, respiratory, vascular and cerebrovascular physiology which can be examined using tools used in clinical practice. In this way it becomes possible to simulate hospital activity upon the arrival of a patient finding themselves faced with various clinical cases proposed by the teachers: by observing Hal s5301 and its symptoms they formulate the diagnosis and act. At the end, the debriefing led by the professors takes place.
“For the first time AI has been integrated into a humanoid simulator in medicine – explained Patrizia Angelotti, CEO of Accurate – the social impact of advanced interdisciplinary training will be far-reaching in reducing the error in medicine due to the human factor”.
“Equipping students and postgraduates with cutting-edge tools is essential to give citizens the best possible health response: it also contributes fundamentally to overcoming the challenge we have before us, that is of urgently re-founding the health system”, added the regional councilor with responsibility for Health, Riccardo Riccardi.
