After more than 40 years, Da Siora Rosa buffet, known for its Triestine atmosphere, hot and cold snacks which are an essential part of a local’s rebechin diet, is closing its doors with many Triestini sad to see an important part of their daily lives go.

Contemporary Triestini unfamiliar with the cafe’s storied life can’t really grasp the lifelong affection and regard that locals held for the Siora Rosa sign beckoning them to come in from any corner of Piazza Hortis, hefty with promise of a good rebechin (Triestine aperitivo). “It’s been a big part of our lives. We feel very much like a part of the community. It’s going to be hard to say good-bye,” one customer told us.

The reason for closure has nothing to do with the pandemic’s aftermath, as was previously speculated, but with the advanced age of its owners. The owner Lorenzo is 90 and his wife Albina is 85. “We are tried,” they confessed. The historic buffet will close down on 30 June.

The buffet will be greatly missed but will surely not stay closed for a long time for its very central and happening location at the end of the famous for its nightlife, via Torino.
