This year Italy will mark the 77th edition of Festa della Repubblica on 2 June which commemorates the day in 1946 when Italians voted in favor of a republic and against the monarchy which had been discredited during world war two.
On 2 June, the Prefecture of Trieste, in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste, the “Friuli Venezia Giulia” Army Military Command and the “Giuseppe Tartini” Conservatory of Music, will organize the traditional celebrations on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the foundation of the Italian Republic.
The flag-raising ceremony will take place at 10 am in Piazza Unità after the regional authorities will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Redipuglia.
The celebrations will continue in the afternoon starting at 5 pm and will end with the lowering of the flag.
The solemn ceremony is followed with a free concert in Piazza Unità by the Conservatorio di Musica “G. Tartini” at 9 pm.
Italy’s public offices and schools, and many businesses, will be closed for the public holiday on 2 June.
