Standing on one of the Topolini on Monday, Trieste’s Council member Elisa Lodi announced one of the most significant investments for Barcola beach in the community’s recent history: a 135 thousand facelift.

The project, funded by the comune, redid more than two miles of Barcola’s sidewalks, and broken staircases, with the special focus on the so-called Topolini part of the beach, in particular numbers 8, 9 and 10. It also improved drainage to prevent damage during storms.

Lodi told reporters she was happy the project was finished in time for the summer months. “This vision has been here for a long time in this community,” Lodi said. “It’s been a long time coming, and I’m proud that myself and my fellow council members shared this same vision, as well as city staff, to make it become a reality.”
