The old kitchens of the Miramare castle were inaugurated on Thursday, 1 June. Among the castle’s service rooms, the kitchens had a central role and are definitely a place to discover while visiting the beautiful castle.

In the nineteenth century, food was prepared for he court of Maximilian and Charlotte in these kitchens, and later in the early twentieth century, for the Duke Amedeo and Anna of Aosta. Located in the basement, they overlook the porticciolo (small port) from where the supplies used to arrive.

Complex conservation work involving the interior and exterior has now made it possible to visit this past of the historic residence. The tout evokes the path designed for the supplies: starting from the entrance facing the porticciolo, which has been restored to its original appearance, visitors proceed to the pre-cellar room, where the supplies were sorted and stored, and then to the kitchen, with its lovesand finally to the baker, where cakes, tea, and coffee were prepared. At the far end of the kitchen, one can catch a glimpse of the dumbwaiter and spiral staircase that servants would use to access the dining rooms on the upper floors.

The reconfiguration of these rooms provides the opportunity to admire museum’s extensive collection of porcelain, glassware, and silverware, daring back mostly to the 1930s. The norw display cabinets resemble ancient cupboards that were used storing kitchen supplies and utensils.
