Banca d’Italia presented its annual report this Thursday, 15 June, on the economic growth of our region. We interviewed the director of Banca d’Italia Trieste, Marco Martella, on the economic future of our region.

In 2022, the economic activity of Friuli Venezia Giulia continued to grow at a slower pace in comparison to previous years. The performance was affected by a significant slowdown of the economy in the second half of the year, held back by the rise in energy prices and the weakening of domestic and foreign demand.

The quarterly indicator of the regional economy (ITER), calculated by the Bank of Italy, rose by 3.7 percent, in line with the trend in the national GDP. The slight decline of industrial production (-1.8 percent) was largely offset by the growth in construction and services (10.5 and 5.2 percent respectively). Export- excluding shipbuilding- grew by 21.3 percent at current values and by 5.6 percent at constant values.

“It is hard to make predictions for the rest of the year,” director Martella told us, “But it is reassuring that the economic growth is stable and the economy is resilient.”
