After being closed for works for over a year, the Foraggi tunnel reopened on Tuesday night to traffic.

The news was announced by the Municipality of Trieste at the end of the technical summit held on Monday, “It has been confirmed that the tunnel in piazza Foraggi will regularly reopen to vehicular traffic tomorrow, Tuesday 11 July, starting at 21.30. The official confirmation was given by Mayor Roberto Dipiazza and by the Councilor for Public Works Elisa Lodi at the end of the technical meeting held today in the Municipality”.

It was May 16, 2022 when the Montebello tunnel was closed to traffic and was supposed to be closed for 40 days.

Delays in the works, the cost of steel rising, and materials difficult to find delayed the reopening of the tunnel. After a year of works, it is the the long-awaited breakthrough for many a Triestino using the tunnel on a daily basis.
