The administration reasserts its commitment to the improvements of the green areas, as well as the maintenance of roads and sidewalks: the councilors talked about the projects and future goals to have green areas in every neighborhood.

“We are working hard to return the green areas to the community, every day more usable and valuable”, affirms the councilor Michele Babuder while he continues explaining how to make Trieste greener and improve citizens’ quality of life.

A press conference was held on Tuesday 18th July at the City Council of Trieste. The topics on the table were mainly the projects of the development of public green areas and sidewalk maintenance, those finished or in process, besides proposals for the future.

Some changes that were made in the last three months, when Babuder took office, are the new green areas in Piazza della Libertà, the improvement of Piazza Venezia, and the reshuffle around Tor Cucherna. However, the aim is to rebuild gardens, without neglecting peripheries.

Other municipal councilors attending the meeting were Angela Brandi and Alberto Polacco, the director of the Environment Services and Public Green, Lucia Iammarino, along with Anna Nisi and Umberto Bordon, and the head of the Road Services and Infrastructure, Gustavo Zandanel.

They reaffirmed the commitment to road maintenance, like the 500.000 euro used to intervene in via Perolo, via Commerciale, via dell ‘Istria and to rebuild the north area roads.

Babuder said that bikers’ mobility is a priority (the works underway in the Rive bikeway). So far, the interventions and works in progress are valued at almost 1,5 million euro. For instance, the new woods (240 trees), as well as the extraordinary maintenance of the trees in San Giusto Hill. On the other hand, there’s also an interest in the center’s protection, motivated by the tourism sector. It is recommended to take advantage of the season because during summer children don’t have to go to school, and thus it’s easy to avoid the inconveniences while paving the sidewalks.

The councilors emphasize that investing in a greener city is part of Trieste’s needs and should be supported. To make a true impact there are other ongoing tenders for stairs, sidewalks, tunnels, and stream cleanups. In addition to this, the political party has plans for Piazza Sant’ Antonio, Strada del Friuli, Via dei Moreri, and the highways of Grignano.
