Trieste is crowded with tourists this summer, with the Friuli Venezia Giulia capital experiencing the return to pre-pandemic levels in 2023, according to Giorgio Rossi, the city’s councilor for tourism, culture, and sport.

“Culture has always been the asset on which Trieste has made its fortune” – Rossi told us – “We are enhancing the city’s extraordinary historical heritage but we want to combine it with the potential of large-scale events in iconic places in Trieste, like Piazza Unità and Rocco stadium.”

The goal is to put forward “a more modern and attractive image of the Friuli Venezia Giulia capital”, said Rossi, who underlined recent international media coverage of the city of Trieste as well as the rest of FVG.

“Trieste has a unique beauty” – Rossi said – “The time has come to make it better known and exploit it fully”.

Last week a new report by retailer association Confcommercio showed that Italy is seeing a surge in foreign tourists who are set to generate €17 billion this summer, with US tourists leading the recovery.
