After a long wait and less than a year after the appointment of the Superintendency of the theater, the Verdi of Trieste and its artistic workers have a new Music Director in Enrico Calesso, appointed to the role for four years thanks to his strong artistic and managerial experience in the German-speaking world from Würzburg to Vienna and Linz.
In the 2023-24 season Calesso will close the symphonic calendar with the highly anticipated concert on 22 December dedicated to the “Centenary of Zeno’s Conscience” with a dizzying layout that ranges from the very rare Giulio Viozzi with Musica per Italo Svevo to the Schumann concert with Massimo Gon al piano up to Mahler’s Titan, while for the opera he will conduct Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos in February directed by Paul Curran, a title in which he has already given excellent performances in the German area.
At the age of 48 Calesso has already conducted important orchestras including the Gewandhaus Orchester of Leipzig, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, La Fenice, the Lirico of Cagliari, the Wiener Symphoniker, the Bruckner Orchester Linz, the Orchestra of Italian Switzerland, the Austrian Radio Orchestra of Vienna, Puccini Festival, Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, Berner Symphonie-Orchester, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Mantua Chamber Orchestra, Münchner Symphoniker, Staatskapelle Schwerin, Norddeutsche Philharmonie, Jenaer Philharmonie, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Erfurt Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchester Symphonique of Mulhouse.
Calesso arrives in Trieste fresh from the roles of Generalmusikdirektor of the Mainfranken Theater of Würzburg in Germany, Chefdirigent of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Würzburg and Permanent Guest Conductor at the Landestheater of Linz in Austria.
